ViCal Solutions — About

ABOUT VICAL SOLUTIONS

Built Through Experience. Driven by Purpose.

ViCal Solutions exists to help people, teams and organisations think more clearly, build greater capacity and lead with intent—particularly when pressure, change or adversity increase.

Founded by McQuilty “Coco” Quirke NSC, ViCal brings together lived experience, professional capability and practical application across leadership, wellbeing and human performance.

Clarity. Wellbeing. Leadership.

WHY VICAL EXISTS

Experience Should Become Useful.

ViCal Solutions was built on a simple belief:

Experience has greater value when it can be turned into something useful for others.

Across military service, rehabilitation, leadership, sport, training and organisational environments, the same principles continued to appear:

People perform better when they have clarity.

Performance is more sustainable when wellbeing and recovery are treated as capability.

Teams become stronger when leaders create trust, direction and standards.

ViCal exists to turn those principles into practical tools, conversations and capability that people can apply in their own environment.

THE PURPOSE

Clearer Thinkers. Stronger People. Purposeful Leaders.

ViCal works across three connected areas:

Clarity

Think clearly. Act intentionally.

Helping people develop focus, perspective, self-awareness and more deliberate decision-making.

Wellbeing

Build the capacity to perform and recover.

Strengthening resilience, recovery, adaptability and sustainable human performance.

Leadership

Lead people. Build trust. Create standards.

Developing leadership, communication, accountability, teamwork and culture.

The goal is not simply to create a moment of inspiration. It is to build capability people can continue using when it matters.

MEET THE FOUNDER

McQuilty “Coco” Quirke NSC

Founder & Principal Consultant

Former Australian Army Combat Medic | Leadership Consultant | Wellbeing Advocate

McQuilty “Coco” Quirke served for 18 years in the Australian Army as a Combat Medic, with operational service in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.

His career placed him in environments where leadership, teamwork, decision-making and human performance were not theoretical concepts—they had real consequences.

In 2007, Coco was awarded the Nursing Service Cross for lifesaving treatment provided to a soldier with multiple neck fractures.

In 2011, while deployed to Afghanistan, he was wounded in action following an improvised explosive device attack. The injuries led to extensive surgery, rehabilitation and a long-term recovery journey.

Those experiences significantly shaped how Coco understands resilience, mindset, leadership, recovery and the role of other people when adversity arrives.

But ViCal is not built around adversity alone.

It is built around what can be learned, applied and passed forward from it.

FROM EXPERIENCE TO APPLICATION

The Story Provides Context. The Application Creates Value.

Coco’s experiences became the foundation for practical concepts now used throughout ViCal.

Shield of Resilience

Understanding resilience as something that can be strengthened across multiple layers before adversity arrives.

Layered Resilience

Recognising the interaction between physical, mental and emotional capability during pressure, injury and recovery.

Control the Controllables

Directing attention and effort toward what can genuinely be influenced.

Team Non-Negotiables

Creating shared behavioural standards that teams can understand, protect and reinforce.

Live With Intent

Choosing how you want to think, act and respond rather than allowing circumstances to make that choice for you.

These concepts now sit alongside evidence-informed practices, professional capability and the broader ViCal Framework.

BEYOND THE MILITARY

Experience Across Different Environments

The military shaped much of Coco’s understanding of leadership and human performance, but the principles have since been applied across very different environments.

Sport

Work across professional, pathway and community sport involving leadership, athlete wellbeing, resilience, team culture and performance.

Education

Programs and presentations supporting student wellbeing, mindset, leadership, resilience and positive behaviour.

Defence & First Responders

Leadership under pressure, resilience, preparedness, recovery and operational capability.

Organisations & Community

Leadership development, workplace wellbeing, team culture, human performance and capability building.

Different environments. Different pressures. The same need for capable people and effective leadership.

HOW VICAL WORKS

Practical. People-Centred. Built for Application.

ViCal does not begin with a pre-packaged solution.

We begin by understanding the people, environment and challenge.

Listen

Understand what is happening and what matters.

Clarify

Identify the capability, behaviour or outcome that needs to strengthen.

Design

Build the right combination of speaking, workshops, programs or advisory support.

Apply

Translate the learning into practical behaviours and tools.

Reflect

Review what worked, what changed and what should happen next.

The framework provides structure. The environment determines the application.

WHAT VICAL STANDS FOR

Live With Intent.

The name ViCal reflects six ideas that helped shape the philosophy behind the business.

THE PERSONAL STORY

The Experiences Behind ViCal

Coco’s story includes operational service, post-traumatic stress, being wounded in action, extensive physical rehabilitation, significant personal adversity and the people who helped him continue moving forward.

Those experiences remain an important part of ViCal.

But they are not the product.

The story explains where the lessons came from. ViCal is about what those lessons can help other people do.

Experience Is Only Valuable If We Do Something With It.

If your organisation wants to strengthen leadership, wellbeing, resilience, team culture or human performance, ViCal can help turn the challenge into practical capability.

Clearer Thinkers. Stronger People. Purposeful Leaders.

Live With Intent.
