Live With Intent.
THE VICAL FRAMEWORK
Three areas. One practical approach. ViCal tools are organised across three connected areas that influence how people think, respond and perform.
CLARITY
Think clearly. Act intentionally.
Build greater focus, perspective and self-awareness so you can respond deliberately rather than simply react to pressure.
WELLBEING
Build the capacity to perform and recover.
Strengthen the habits, routines and recovery practices that support sustainable performance.
LEADERSHIP
Lead people. Build trust. Create standards.
Develop the behaviours, accountability and shared expectations that help individuals and teams perform effectively together.
CLARITY
Think clearly. Act intentionally.
Control the Controllables
Separate what you can influence from what you cannot. Direct your energy toward your effort, attitude, preparation and response rather than wasting it on things outside your control.
Daily Intention
Decide how you want to show up before the demands of the day begin. A clear intention creates a reference point for your behaviour, attention and decisions.
Visualisation & Mental Rehearsal
Visualisation and mental rehearsal can help people prepare for demanding situations by rehearsing both desired outcomes and likely challenges.
Create Your Personal Mantra
Develop a short phrase that reconnects you with the mindset and behaviour you want when pressure increases.
Repeated self-talk can influence attention, confidence and how you respond in difficult moments.
Reframe the Setback
A setback does not have to become a stopping point. Step back, identify what happened, extract the lesson and decide what you will do differently next time.
Find Your Ikigai
Explore the intersection between what you love, what you are good at, what creates value and where you can contribute.
Use the exercise to reflect on purpose, direction and the kind of impact you want to make.
The 5 Second Rule
When hesitation appears before a useful action, count 5–4–3–2–1 and move.
The goal is simple: interrupt overthinking and create momentum before hesitation takes control.
Self-Talk
Pay attention to the language you use with yourself.
Replace unhelpful judgement with language that creates perspective, learning and forward action.
Instead of:
“I failed.” Try: “That didn't work. What can I learn and what will I do next?”
WELLBEING TOOLS
Build the capacity to perform and recover.
Morning Gratitude
Start the day by deliberately recognising what is meaningful, positive and within your life right now.
Regular gratitude practice can help redirect attention toward perspective, connection and what matters most.
Evening Reflection
Regular reflection can help reinforce learning, identify patterns and improve preparation for the next day.
Ask:
What went well?
What could I improve?
What did I learn?
What do I need to let go of?
Breathwork
Your breathing can be used as a practical tool for regulating attention, arousal and composure.
Slow, deliberate breathing is particularly useful before demanding conversations, presentations, competition, decision-making or sleep.
Try it: inhale slowly, exhale slowly and focus on controlling the breath rather than forcing it
Protect Your Morning
Do not give the first part of your day away automatically.
Create space before screens, notifications and other people's demands take over. Use that time to move, reflect, plan or prepare.
Own the morning before the morning owns you.
Exercise
Movement supports both physical and mental performance.
Build exercise into your routine as a consistent habit rather than something you rely on motivation to start.
The goal is not perfection.
Move regularly. Recover deliberately. Build capacity.
Cold Exposure
Controlled cold exposure can be used as a practice in composure, breathing and deliberate response to discomfort.
If you choose to use cold exposure, focus less on enduring the discomfort and more on staying calm and controlling your response to it.
LEADERSHIP & PERFORMANCE TOOLS
Lead people. Build trust. Create standards.
Win Tomorrow Tonight
Remove unnecessary decisions from tomorrow by preparing tonight.
Organise what you need, identify your priorities and create a clear starting point for the next day.
Preparation reduces friction.
Intentional Preparation
Intentional preparation is about setting yourself up before the pressure arrives.
By planning ahead, identifying priorities and preparing your mindset, you reduce unnecessary stress, improve decision-making and give yourself the best chance to perform with clarity and purpose when it matters.
Team non-negotiables
Strong teams are clear about the behaviours they expect from one another.
Identify the standards your team will protect regardless of circumstances, results or pressure.
Make them observable. Make them practical. Hold each other accountable.
Accountability & Team Standards
Accountability and team standards create clarity around what good looks like and what the group expects from each other.
When standards are understood, agreed and consistently reinforced, teams build trust, strengthen culture and hold themselves accountable to the behaviours required to perform well together.
Leadership Reflection
Leadership improves when leaders deliberately examine their own behaviour.
Reflect on how you communicated, the standards you reinforced, the decisions you made and the impact you had on the people around you.
Shield of Resilience
Resilience is not one thing.
The Shield of Resilience encourages people to consider the different layers that support their capacity to withstand pressure, adapt through adversity and recover when life becomes difficult.
Build the shield before you need it.
1% Better
Focus on small, repeatable improvements. Consistency compounds over time.
Focus on small actions you can repeat consistently.
Ask yourself:
What is one thing I can improve today?
Then do it again tomorrow.
Embrace Discomfort
Growth regularly requires doing things that feel difficult, unfamiliar or inconvenient.
Rather than treating discomfort as an automatic signal to stop, learn to recognise when it is part of learning, adaptation and improvement.
Get comfortable being appropriately uncomfortable.
