ViCal Solutions — Case Studies

CASE STUDIES

Real Challenges. Practical Approaches. Meaningful Outcomes.

Every organisation operates in a different environment. ViCal Solutions works with leaders, teams and organisations to understand the challenge, build the right approach and translate ideas into practical application.

These case studies show how ViCal principles have been applied across Defence, elite sport, rehabilitation and team culture.

Clarity. Wellbeing. Leadership.

INTRODUCTION

Built for the Environment.

There is no single formula for leadership, wellbeing or human performance.

The challenge, people, culture and operating environment all matter.

That is why ViCal starts by understanding the context before deciding what the intervention should look like.

The approach

Understand the Challenge
What is happening and what needs to change?

Design the Approach
What combination of speaking, facilitation, tools or development will best support the outcome?

Create Application
How will the learning translate into behaviour beyond the engagement?

Measure the Outcome
What changed, improved or became possible?

Every organisation experiences pressure differently. The solution should reflect the environment.

CASE STUDY 02

Bowen Mudcrabs Rugby Union Club

Premiership Season — 2022

Focus: Team Culture | Standards | Accountability | Performance

Challenge

The Bowen Mudcrabs wanted to create a stronger team identity and establish clear non-negotiable behaviours that could guide the group throughout the season and support their goal of competing for the premiership.

ViCal Approach

McQuilty worked with players and staff during preseason to establish shared standards around effort, accountability, commitment, personal growth and team culture.

These standards were brought together under one simple principle:

Be the first.

The statement gave players and staff a shared reference point for how they wanted to train, compete and hold one another accountable.

Outcome

The club carried those standards into the season as a practical cultural framework reinforcing accountability and collective responsibility.

The Bowen Mudcrabs went on to:

Win the 2022 Grand Final.

CASE STUDY 03

North Queensland Cowboys & Soldier Recovery Centre

2012–2013

Focus: Resilience | Rehabilitation | Connection | Human Performance

Challenge

Recovering soldiers were navigating the physical and psychological demands of rehabilitation, while the North Queensland Cowboys were developing leadership, teamwork and resilience within their playing group.

The opportunity was to create a meaningful connection between the two environments.

ViCal Approach

McQuilty worked with Neil Henry, then Head Coach of the North Queensland Cowboys, to connect recovering soldiers with players and staff through presentations, shared training and the concept of Layered Resilience across physical, mental and emotional domains.

Soldiers from the Soldier Recovery Centre participated alongside Cowboys players in gym and field sessions, creating opportunities for shared activity, connection and mutual understanding.

Outcome

The initiative created a practical bridge between elite sport and military rehabilitation.

It supported connection and recovery for soldiers while increasing awareness and understanding across the Cowboys playing group.

The engagement moved beyond a presentation and became a practical example of mateship, shared experience and recovery through connection.

Client Voice

“His talk resonated well with our players… This also served to significantly raise awareness and understanding amongst our playing group.”
